Orthopaedics

Orthopaedics is the branch of medicine that is involved in the treatment of injuries and diseases in one’s bodily musculoskeletal system including joints, bones, tendons, ligaments, muscles and nerves which is responsible for keeping your body moving and active.

The most common orthopaedic disorders comprise knee, back, and neck pain and osteoarthritis. While the basic symptoms of these conditions include pain in particular body areas, there are many other signs that indicate it’s time to visit an orthopaedic.

For instance, knee pain can occur due to an injury, an underlying medical condition, or any mechanical problems. The signs to look out for in knee pain include unbearable pain, inability to flex knees, numb feeling in the knees, limping, not being able to stand, swelling, redness and fever with pain.

On the other hand, back pain symptoms include chronic aching or stiffness along the spine right from the base of the neck to the tailbone. Common causes of back pain include spine-related disorders, accidents, injuries, lifestyle habits, and underlying medical conditions.

Causes of neck pain include muscle sprain or strain, an underlying disease, injury, accidents, and ageing. Common symptoms of neck pain include neck muscle spasms, tension, tenderness and stiffness. Osteoarthritis can be identified with signs such as tenderness in joints, loss of flexibility, bone spurs, stiffness in joints, grating sensation in joints, and swelling. The exact causes of osteoarthritis are unclear. Research indicates that it is caused by a combination of factors such as heredity, weak muscles, auto-immune diseases, ageing, joint injury, stress, bacterial or viral infection and being overweight. At the Long Life Speciality Clinic, we treat a wide range of orthopaedic disorders. We offer consultation, imaging and physiotherapy services under the same roof for the convenience of our patients. Consultation – You can consult our experienced orthopaedics team and evaluate your spine, bone, knee or musculature, as the case may be.
